The Dyson Airwrap is a multi-styler that uses air instead of extreme heat to style hair. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it’s incredibly user-friendly.
In this video, we go through the best multi-stylers on the market and share our experiences with products like the Dyson, Care Air, Remington, and Babyliss. We test key features, ease of use, and styling results — so you can easily find the multi-styler that fits your needs best. Best premium choice | Tested on fine, long hair | Advanced technology
From the moment you unbox the Dyson Airwrap i.d.™, it’s clear you’re dealing with something special. Premium materials, a luxurious storage case, and an overall sense of refinement — this isn’t just a multi-styler, it’s an experience. And the price? It reflects that.
But is it really that much better than the competition, or are you mostly paying for the brand and the beautiful box? That’s what we set out to test.
The Dyson Airwrap is the most expensive product in our test, so the natural question is: what do you actually get for the price?
The first thing you notice is the quality. The Airwrap feels like a premium tool from the very first touch. It has a matte finish that sits comfortably in the hand, and every button and detail feels solid. Nothing creaks, and there’s no cheap plastic sensation — every material choice feels intentional.
The storage case is not just beautiful, it’s also highly practical. It gives you a fixed place to store all attachments, so they don’t end up scattered in drawers or on your vanity. If you use your multi-styler frequently, this makes a real difference in daily life — offering a sense of order and elegance. It feels a bit like having your own personalized styling kit within reach — and once you’ve had it, it’s hard to go back.
But what really sets Dyson apart are its smart features. With i.d. curl™, the device automatically detects your hair strand and guides you through the styling process, removing the guesswork. It even goes into standby between curls, so you don’t have to manually keep track of timing — it does it for you. These small touches make Dyson feel like a device that works with you, rather than something you constantly have to manage.
If you're looking for a multi-styler that thinks for you and gives a luxurious experience, the Airwrap is hard to beat. But if you’re only focused on end results, the Care Air 2.0 can actually create the same beautiful curls and volume — at a lower price, though with slightly more manual effort. It lacks the automatic pause function and app integration, but it also doesn’t require as much learning as the Dyson.
If you’re mainly after ease of use and want beautiful, long-lasting curls without much hassle, the Care Air might be a better fit. But if you're seeking a high-end styling tool with a premium finish, personalized features, and app connectivity, the Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ is the one to go for
.
The Dyson Airwrap comes with 6 styling attachments, which is fewer than the Care Air 2.0 but still enough to cover most styling needs:
The Airwrap features three heat settings (up to 150°C), three airflow levels, and an automatic cool shot — making it both versatile and gentle on the hair.
We tested the Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ on fine, long hair — and it quickly became clear why it's so popular.
What sets it apart from all other multi-stylers is the Coanda effect. Instead of using heated plates or rotating brushes, it creates a powerful airflow that naturally wraps the hair around the barrel — without using extreme heat. This means you can style more often without worrying about heat damage, which is especially important if you use styling tools several times a week.
The Dyson pulls in the hair slightly slower than the Care Air, but with more control. It feels gentler because the suction isn’t as aggressive — although this also means styling the full head takes a bit longer. Care Air feels faster and more intuitive for beginners, while Dyson delivers a more luxurious experience, especially through its companion app.
One of the biggest differences lies in Dyson’s i.d. curl™ technology. Instead of manually counting seconds or activating cool air, Dyson does it all for you.
When using i.d. curl™, you simply hold a strand of hair near the device. It grips and locks the hair, then guides you through the styling process. It automatically times how long to curl the strand, when to activate the cool shot to set the curl, and then releases the hair in ultra-low flow mode so you can move on to the next strand without doing anything manually.
Care Air 2.0 lacks this automated sequence, which means you have more manual control over the styling. You'll need to count seconds and activate cool air yourself — similar to a traditional curling iron. If you're already used to manual styling, you might not miss the automation. But if you prefer a styler that thinks for you and delivers consistent, effortless results, Dyson is clearly the more user-friendly option.
We used the 40 mm curling barrel, which creates soft, natural-looking curls. The result was impressive, but we found that it took a bit of practice to master the technique.
If you’re after a voluminous blowout, the Dyson Airwrap really delivers.
The volumizing brush gave us a perfect salon-like effect — hair felt light, airy, and full, and it stayed that way for hours without falling flat. Compared to Care Air, the brush felt a bit gentler on the hair, as it doesn’t pull as aggressively.
The Smoothing Dryer feature is one of the best tools we’ve tested for taming frizz and flyaways. It’s especially effective if you want smooth, soft hair that still retains some body.
If you’re looking for pin-straight results, the smoothing brushes are a great alternative to flat irons — although they do leave a slight natural movement in the hair. For that ultra-sleek, mirror-shine finish, you’ll still need a classic flat iron.
The biggest downside is that it takes a bit of practice. If you’ve never used an Airwrap before, chances are you’ll need a few tries to get the technique right. It’s not exactly a plug-and-play experience like the Care Air.
Price is also a major factor. It costs more than twice as much as the Care Air, making it a serious investment. You’re paying not only for the functionality, but also for the premium feel, elegant storage case, and smart automation features.
Lastly, there’s the number of attachments. The Airwrap comes with 6 styling heads, while Care Air gives you 8. So if variety in attachments is important to you, Care Air might be the stronger option.
The Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ is for those who want the best of the best — not just in terms of performance, but also in design, comfort, and user experience.
It takes some getting used to, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll achieve salon-quality results with minimal heat damage.
We especially recommend it if you:
✅ Want luxury and cutting-edge hair tech
✅ Care about gentle styling and heat protection
✅ Prefer a multifunctional tool that also works as a hairdryer
However, if your main goal is quick, easy curls — and you don’t mind counting seconds manually — the Care Air 2.0 gives you more value for money. It delivers results that, in many cases, can match Dyson’s — at less than half the price.
That’s exactly why we’ve named the Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ our best premium choice, while Care Air 2.0 takes the title for best overall in test. Two different products, two different experiences — but both deliver outstanding results.
If you're looking for luxury and advanced technology — yes. It’s expensive, but you get automated features like i.d. curl™, gentle styling, and a premium storage solution.
Not straight out of the towel. Dyson recommends your hair be damp — or that you use the Smoothing Dryer attachment first to lightly dry it.
A bit, yes. While the Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ is packed with smart features, you still need to get the hang of holding and maneuvering it properly. But once you do, it becomes second nature — especially when combined with the app and i.d. curl™, it’s nearly effortless.
